The concept for the Buddha a Day project began in the fall of 2008, during my visit to a Tibetan-Buddhist center in Santa Cruz. I found out that local Buddhists bring their old newspapers and magazines in to the center so that any photographic images of the Buddha that are in these publications can be cut out and saved so the paper can be recycled without destroying any images of the Buddha. The cut-out images are then stored in small shrines. The idea of cutting out images of the Buddha stuck, and in mid June 2009, I began my year long project. “A Buddha A Day.” Ever since then, I have been producing one papercut a day of the image of Buddha and plan to continue for a full year. For more on this project, please check out my interview with Ed Newman of Ennyman’s Territory here.
I am inviting people to choose an image they like and enter a writing contest (excellent writing on any topic, a page or less long). If I like a submission, the writer will win the Buddha image of his or her choice. Winning entries are published on the Buddha a Day blog. The ongoing series of images can be seen on the Buddha A Day Facebook page, on the Buddha A Day archive page.
Prints of any of the images can be made upon request. An edition consists of four prints of an image, they are signed and numbered and sell for $50 each. Please contact me at Abuddhaday@gmail.com for details.
